Vaccine Update for over 70s
We have been informed that this week, a national letter from NHS England will be sent to all residents over 70 (and possibly all CEVs) to invite them to make an appointment for their Covid-19 vaccine.
This is because new regional vaccination centres have been opened, among them is the Redgrave Children’s Centre in Luton. There are also new Pharmacy-led centres in Biggleswade (The Weatherley Centre) and Flitwick (Rufus Centre).
We know that this has the potential to confuse local residents, who are waiting to be contacted by their GP to attend a vaccination clinic closer to their home.
For clarity, residents who receive the letter and would like to book an appointment at Redgrave Children’s Centre (or the Biggleswade or Flitwick centres) are welcome to do so.
Alternatively, they can ignore the letter and wait to be called by their GP for their vaccination in a Primary Care led facility.
A message will be posted on our website and social media platforms and we are working with Healthwatch and Age Concern to provide advice to those who are worried or confused.
We appreciate the role that our elected members play in helping to share accurate information and so would welcome your support in helping us to get this message out in a timely way, so we can minimise any confusion or concern from our residents.
The message we are sharing is as follows:
If you have received a letter today inviting you to attend a regional Covid-19 vaccination centre, which is out of area and which you will struggle to attend, please don’t worry.
Vaccination centres are opening all over the country and there will be one opening soon in your area.
In the meantime, our GP led centres are inviting people from 80 upwards for their vaccination and will extend this to people over 70 and those who are Extremely Clinically Vulnerable, as soon as our residents over 80 have been vaccinated.
If you would prefer to receive a local vaccination, you do not need to do anything. Your GP will call you or you will be notified when a centre in your area opens up.
Thank you in advance for your ongoing support.
